  1. This used to be the way it was in Medieval Europe before the sovereigns figured out that the Jews could afford to loan them money because they were allowed to charge interest. Banking was born in order for countries to equip armies and fight wars. In more modern times, businesses and agriculture couldn't operate without the ability to borrow money. Without banking, there would be much fewer jobs and we would all be naked and hungry. The trick is to borrow money in a way that you make more money than the loan costs. It's great when you can do it and ugly when it doesn't work out.
